Create Revit Site with Google Earth SurfaceAutodesk labs site provide 'Google Earth TM Extension'for AutoCAD, Architecture, Civil 3D, Map 3D, the usages of the tool are: * Import Google Earth image to .dwg applications (AutoCAD, Architecture, Civil 3D, Map 3D) * Publishing 3D DWG Models to Google Earth TM * AutoCAD Drape a grayscale Google Earth TM image onto a 3D mesh in AutoCAD applications The 3rd function provide a method to import the elevation data for the current Google Earth view into AutoCAD as a mesh, then one can link the site .dwg as a reference to create Revit site, here are the steps: 1. Launch AutoCAD (or Civil 3D, etc), do as per the guide (please refer to page 8-11 of the Google Earth TM Extension white paper, shown at the bottom of this article) indicates. Here are the results,
Using Revitcity, how could I obtain a.pat file, if possible. Tried searching and specifying I want a.pat file, but got to no hits. Otherwise, where in the MasterFomat 04 could I find any available pattern files. Alternatively, any hits or links to places where I could get fill pattern files for revit would be muchly appreciate.
The Revit ClinicThanks to Jeff Hanson for the following post! With each development cycle the Revit team works to develop new features, enhance or expand existing functionality, and improve the overall performance of Revit. The 2015 development cycle was no different in this respect and overall performance of Revit 2015 has increased when tested against Revit 2014. Of particular note is the performance of graphics related operations. In our tests we saw the greatest improvements in raster image operations (move, cop, array, etc…), view navigation, and element selection. This year’s Revit development also included a project that alters the internal family data structure which optimizes some computation heavy update operations that are triggered when the model is changed.
Save an In-Place Family as an RFADo you have some awesome in-place families that you would like to convert to normal Component families, so that you can load them into other projects? Here's how: Open the Project containing the In-Place family Edit the In-Place familySelect all of the elements in the familyGroup all of these elements using the Create Group tool. Give the Group a name.Select the Group Do not Finish Editing the In-Place family yet!Go to the 'R' button (Application Menu) - Save As - Library - GroupYou will notice that the filetype is RFA!
Pattern-Based Curtain Panel Roof TileThere are many interesting ways to use Revit's pattern-based curtain walls and panels, and this is one that must have occurred to many users when the capability was introduced in version 2010. My recent work on smaller scale residential buildings provided the opportunity to develop the technique.Traditionally in Revit roofing tiles have been represented by a 'roof object' with a surface pattern and thickness. The line-based families I had previously created for hip, ridge and rake tiles are great for enhancing 3D views and also elevations to some degree, but these views were still very 'flat' - resulting from the imported surface pattern (displayed at an angle) and the lack of definition of the foremost edge of the roof material. Pattern-based curtain panels are capable of stretching and deforming over complex surfaces. In addition, panels are automatically trimmed along angular edges, which is essential for accurately depicting the hips and valleys of these roof types.
ADAPTIVE SPIRAL STAIRSI was looking through Zach Kron's parametric patterns series, which is still available on his Buildz website, and well worth a look if you missed it. The INCREMENT SPIRAL caught my eye and I started wondering 'how would I convert this into a fully parametric spiral stair' I took the family that Zach created: just a spiral line, with parameters for height, radius, rotation angle. (You can vary the top and bottom radius separately to make a cone, but I just wanted a cylinder.) The goal was to make a spiral surface, divide it, then populate it with curtain panel families that emulate stair treads.Repurposing the Autodesk USB MediaYou have received one of the Autodesk Suites, installed it, and you want to use the USB key for some other purpose. It is not immediately obvious that this is possible. There is some very decent write protection in play here - you can't delete the partitions in Windows or Linux, you can't format in Safe Mode, you can't even use low level format tools or the HP USB Format tool. You have to go deeper. Continue at your own risk... (below the bars)

Ten Ways to Keep Your Revit Model SpeedyWhen working full steam for a deadline, it is easy to overlook some of the warnings Revit produces. If left unchecked for too long, you can amass 700, 800 or even 1000 warnings—which can make your model slow and cumbersome, because it keeps looking to see if the 'problems' have been fixed. Take a moment to check how many you have in the model and the 'quality' of those warnings.buildzRevit - David LightDownload FREE Revit families and BIM content .rfaRevit Tree Collection -...
